1991 Toyota MR2
Unfortunately, I no longer own this beautiful piece of engineering, but I must say, it was by far one of my favorite cars to have ever owned. When I was in high school, my father gave me the privilege of buying me my first MR2. It was a white 1991 Naturally Aspirated, Automatic. While I was able to learn quite a bit from it, I knew there was way more potential for this little car. A couple months went by and I actually ended up selling my beloved MR2 to stack up on some cash. As the years went by, the desire to own one again ate away at me little by little. Eventually, in October of 2020, I pulled the trigger on my dream spec. I went out and got my hands on a 1991 T-Top, 5-speed Turbo MR2.
Man, was this car a serious journey. When I first bought it, I knew it came with some issues, but I don't think I was ready for what was to come. Tires were first. When I bought the car, the tires were corded and given the stereotype of snap oversteer on these vehicles, I knew I had to do something ASAP. I went with a squared 205/50/15 Bridgestone Potenza RE71R tire and it handled like a dream. Next was coilovers. I went with BC Racing coilovers and I was not let down. Other little modifications came along the way like interior lighting, tint, and a ton of maintenance. Once all the maintenance was out of the way, the fun stuff began.
By the time I sold my MR2 it was full bolt-on. cat-less down pipe, HKS High Power single exit exhaust, boost controller, intake, and a couple other deletes in order to save weight. Plus, I don't really know what smog is so why not, right?
I definitely miss this car this most, but don't get me wrong, I plan on being back in one again.
